Tilt Columns with Shift-On-The-Column

Add the convenience of a column shift to your classic!! Complete with neutral safety switch, as well as provisions for using your original dash indicator. These columns make for a perfect fit. Indicators sold separately, if necessary. The shift pattern on the column will allow you to use either a 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission (except early power glide, because they have a reverse pattern transmission). A shift linkage will be required for installation and will attach to the lower shift arm provided on the column.

WARNING: The 1957 tilt column shift column will move the steering wheel 2” closer to your body than the original. A non-tilt column shift or a “Shorty” 9 bolt adaptor can cure that problem.

Installation Kits

Original Harness: Installation kits for vehicles with a factory original harness will include a 4-way flasher kit. This 4-way flasher kit will add the safety of a 4-way flasher, as well as adapt your original wiring harness to the 3-7/8" plug found on your ididit column.

Aftermarket Harness: Many aftermarket wiring companies offer a replacement harness that incorporates a 4-way flasher unit as well as the flat 3-7/8" plug. If you are using one of these harnesses, a 4-way flasher kit is not necessary as it has been incorporated in the harness.

Floor Mount: In all installations a new floor mount is required. The original will not fit and cannot be used.

Power Box: When using a power box, a rag joint is required. The rag joint has two functions. One, as a coupler between the lower shaft of the column and the input shaft of the gearbox. And two, as a vibration reducer to help isolate pulsations commonly felt from the power steering pump.

Manual Box: When using the original box the shaft will need to be cut and modified and a coupler installed.

	9-Bolt Shorty Wheel Adapter
	The Short 9-bolt is unique. It moves the bolting surface of a steering wheel 2” closer to the dash than a standard aftermarket adaptor. Caution should be taken when using this adaptor.
