Dave Abbott's '32 Ford Roadster
Pickens, SC
Dave is about as nice a customer as we could ever hope to work with!
I was lucky enough to send him a new Pete & Jake's chassis for his '32 Ford project, and quite a few other parts too.

I've been corresponding back and forth with Dave a little since the start of his project, and have had the pleasure of bouncing ideas around, talking about "what if" scenarios, "but if you do this then you have to do this" scenarios, and generally swapping lies and telling big stories!
Thanks Dave - we appreciate the business and the friendship!...........................................RJay
Here's some updates from Dave -
Hi Rjay,
Here is the end of my first spray gun painting effort - the whole body has 1 tack and 3 wet coats of acrylic lacquer primer on top of a filler/primer aerosol can first 3 coats. I used a HVLP turbine spray gun system from TP Tools. Next is 4-6 coats of PPG 1929 Ford Balsam Green acrylic lacquer from Mac's auto. The spray gun is easier to use than the spray cans - so far anyway. The dull primer probably hides all my goofs, but for a first effort all went well. I will probably be an OK painter when I get done. Fun to learn all this stuff....... Hope all is well, Dave

click to enlarge HI RJAY - GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Here is the final body - 6 coats of the 1929 Balsam Green plus 4 coats of clear. All acrylic lacquer. Looks good from a distance al least.
Painting is a high anxiety activity. Once you pull that trigger you better do other good things or it all turns to ####. Reminds me of welding - needs to be done frequently to be any good at it.Yes, I built and fit the doors with the body bolted down to the frame.
NOW, when I put the body back on the frame next week I hope, I hope, that the doors still fit or at least I can adjust the body with
shims so that the doors fit.  If the fiberglass engineering/building and the painting are over and I can get back to simple electrical and mechanical work I will be all smiles. Occasionally I have an irrational thought that an old Ford PU truck, 193?, with a GM 572 crate engine would be a good next project for me. If you should see such a truck for sale, keep me in mind. This building is addictive!
Busy is good - you young guys need to make lots of money and pay lots of taxes and SS to keep us old guys going........Dave
This is the most recent picture I received from Dave - looking good, huh? The amazing part is the construction time. I believe it's been way less than a year!............RJay click to enlarge

Bruce Roosa
1961 Willys Fleetvan
RJay,
This is a 1961 Willys Fleetvan. They were once used by the postal service for local delivery of the mail. The driver stands to operate the vehicle so he/ she can lean out and put the mail in a curbside box. I remember these from my own childhood. Ours will enjoy a street rod style build, with a narrowed Ford 9", 350/350, Heidt's front end, Chassis Engineering leaf springs in the rear, and of course, the Omni steering rack from RJay's.
The little truck is being built by my high school students in a course called Integrated Metals Tech, which is basically a hot rod class.

Funding for the project is coming from me since I'll own the finished car. We've got the car completely disassembled at this point, the body has been media blasted, the frame is sandblasted and wearing the leaf springs. The rear end is out at Currie Enterprises being narrowed, and we're cutting out our boxing plates and doing some patch panels to replace a relatively small amount of rust along the lower panels. We'll be chopping the top a whopping 14" by removing the side panels and fabricating new sheet metal to replace them. A number of our local shops and individuals have been very helpful to us by offering to come in and do workshops on body work and suspension, and eventually painting. Thanks for your help on the steering issue, and if you're in the market for some shifter knobs for your shop, just let me know.
Regards, Bruce
