| A Rack &
Pinion on a straight axle? Yes, it is now possible with Cross
Steer®, a rack & pinion unit designed specifically for 1928-1934
Ford street rods. This innovative design steers off one side, creating
very little bump steer that would occur using a traditional rack &
pinion. There is no play in the rack travel, and is smooth and consistent
throughout the length of its travel. This means that Cross Steer®
eliminates tight spots and loose spots so common with conventional steering
boxes. |
| The Cross Steer®
Rack & Pinion offers a significant reduction in steering effort, even
at low speeds. Cross Steer® has 6 full inches of rack travel at the
rate of about 1.6 per rotation of the pinion, giving Cross Steer®
about 3.75 turns lock to lock as compared to a typical Vega style steering
box with 4 turns lock to lock. |
| Installation is easy!
It takes about an hour to install when replacing a Vega style steering
box. Cross Steer® utilizes a bracket that mounts to the existing Vega
style bracket on your frame. |
| Cross Steer®
is available in a New Build Kit and Retro-Fit Kit, the difference being
the Retro Kit is for users replacing a Vega style steering box, it includes
a coupler, section of shaft, and hardware. This compensates for the distance
between the Cross Steer® pinion and the Vega spline, so you can use
this shaft and hook up your column with out modification, using even the
same U-Joint! |
| The New Build Kit
doesn't include the extension shaft kit. If you are building a new car
you can run a U-joint directly to the 9/16"-26 splined pinion on
the Cross Steer®. |
| Cross
Steer® also comes with a lifetime warranty and satisfaction guaranteed! |
