| Evaporator Tech Tips |
| Hot Rod Air Elite Series evaporators should be mounted where the hose adaptors point upward. This is important, as mounting the unit in any other orientation will not allow condensation to properly drain from the unit. |
| When installing the thermostat capillary tube into the unit, it should not be pushed to the bottom of the unit. If installed this way, the thermostat will run based upon condensation water temperature rather than coil temperature, causing the freeze up of the coil. |
| If you are running a smooth firewall, install the evaporator prior to painting by welding the mounting brackets to the inner firewall, to maintain the smooth appearance in the engine compartment. |
| Evaporator size should not be decided by the amount of area available behind the dash. The size of the unit used should be based upon the amount of capacity needed to keep the car or truck comfortable. |
| In shallow dash applications,
a popular installation trick used by many street rodders is to fabricate
a “subdash”, an approximately 2” panel that extends
the bottom edge of the dash downward to the floor. This panel helps further
conceal the unit behind the dash as well as provide an area to mount vents,
switches and other accessories. The “subdash” can be covered
with upholstery and our 24-0112 all black indash louvers can be nicely mounted into this panel. If you are planning to use a “subdash” or other means of covering the unit either behind the dash or elsewhere in the vehicle, make sure and allow for a source of return air to the unit for maximum efficiency. |
| The performance of the evaporator can be enhanced by the following: |
